The loss...Perhaps this is indeed just about money?

The loss of a precious crop of grapes, the belief that this will all devalue the values of the surrounding properties.....

Just think how it would increase the property values if DeZalze became a "green" and environmentally friendly residential estate, where potentially toxic pesticides and fungicides were not used, where children and residents could enjoy their gardens and the outdoor environment without fear of being caught in spray drift, and without being told to shut their windows and doors during spraying.

Its all very well being told to stay indoors, but what about the fact that all of these chemicals remain active on the surfaces they have been sprayed on - some of them up to 120 days. So you think you are safe by staying indoors, only to them come into contact when you go out into your garden.TATIBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02446847456811355072noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5011562978111841073.post-83158886729121701062012-08-10T04:42:23.363+02:002012-08-10T04:42:23.363+02:00How dare they! Who do they think they are ? How ...How dare they! Who do they think they are ? How can they be allowed to carry on using toxic poisons so close to our homes?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5011562978111841073.post-46200209276973851882012-08-09T08:31:08.288+02:002012-08-09T08:31:08.288+02:00TATIB has received many emails from residents, her...TATIB has received many emails from residents, here is but one example. We have removed the residents name for fear of the resident being intimidated by the HOA :

Dear Patrick

It is with great disappointment that I feel the need to respond to your notice to members regarding the spraying if the vines.

Firstly I am wondering if you actually realise how many people are suffering health wise as not everyone is going to report it or realise the connection. Residents who are already immune compromised will be worse off. I have been suffering terribly with incredibly painful eyes. Red marks on the skin below
the eye and a red, raw, swollen and extremely painful eyelid (it feels like the eyelid is burnt), coupled with extreme fatigue.

When you first mentioned that we would be going the organic route I was thrilled. This was obviously short lived. I cannot believe that financial gain has priority over health and well being. I do not know if you have received advise from experts in the field of organic spraying but maybe you should have a neighbourly chat with Spier on how they have converted to completely organic crops (and still produce great wine) - it is my understanding that they are in the process of getting their organic certification and I know that they would be only to happy to help and share information. I am aware that converting takes time and effort but surely the long term rewards are worth it - the rewards can be both health wise and financial as in the long run going organic will be cheaper than all the
sprays that will continue to increase in price along with the oil price.

Please could you provide me with a copy of the rules and regulations when it comes to spraying. I am sure spraying in windy conditions, which was the case this week, is not the right way. The advise from HOA to keep all windows and doors closed during spraying is also a little short sighted. When one has young kids who are in and out all the time and the weather is warm, this is totally impossible and no way to live (even if only for a few
days).

I hope this letter will have a positive impact in that HOA will reconsider
an organic conversion.

Kind regards
******TATIBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02446847456811355072noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5011562978111841073.post-79476764751395636642012-08-09T08:26:32.882+02:002012-08-09T08:26:32.882+02:00This comment has been removed by the author.TATIBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02446847456811355072noreply@blogger.com
